Welcome to the Tween You and Me blog – a source of information and support for parents, teachers, and anyone else who cares about tweens.
Why tweens? First, because I am mother to two tweens (and one would-be tween) who continuously remind me that they have unique needs.
Second, as my children entered this phase of their adolescence, I noticed that while their natural self-consciousness emerged, self-esteem began to decline. I also noticed that resources for tweens and their parents were much slimmer than those for other stages of development. So I set out to create those resources. In addition to this blog, I’ve written a book for girls titled, Tween You and Me: A Preteen Guide to Becoming Your Best Self. (Available Fall 2009)
The tween years are a time when self-esteem is highly sensitive to nurturing; a time during which parents can protect and strengthen the self-image. Please join me in exploring the many ways that adults can help tweens discover their own self-worth.
