This is a question asked repeatedly of students. Why? Because it exposes a person’s values. Heros are simply magnified examples of personal success. Generally, students will choose a person of great fame and fortune simply because of their visibility. Try following up this question with another: “What personal strengths make this person a hero? What person in everyday life reminds you of your hero?” Questions like these will help the student dissect the attributes that render someone a hero; and assist him in seeing that he, too, can embody hero qualities.
