The following is an excerpt from a post at Radical Parenting by Gema – an 18-year old from Miami, FL.  It’s nice to get perspective on tweenhood from someone who was more recently a tween.  She writes:

I’m a firm believer in having no regrets. I think that our mistakes and our reactions to them are what make up our personalities. However, I’ll admit that in the past, there have been times when I wish that I knew something in advance. I don’t mean an entire outline of my future, but just bits of information that would’ve made my tween and teen years easier. So if I had a chance to go back in time and have a conversation with my ten year old self, my one-sided conversation (because my ten year old self would be too astonished to speak) would go like this:

I have much to say to 10-year-old me, but also think I would not listen to it at the time. It’s so hard to watch children make some of the same mistakes we have, but it is also an important part of learning. Perpsective is key, as is having the actual experience in the first place, so maybe I wouldn’t take back all of the awfully embarrassing moments of my tweenhood because they helped form the woman I am today!
